Mariusz Linke Wiki

Mariusz "Manolo" Linke is a retired Polish mixed martial artist, trainer and the most decorated Polish grappler.

Born in 1969 in Szczecin, hometown of many successful Polish mixed martial artists, he started training judo (at which he currently posses the rank of 4th dan black belt) at the age of 7 and started training Brazilian Ju-Jitsu after watching the first UFC event dominated by Royce Gracie. In 2000 he became one of the co-founders of Szczecin's Berserkers Team, one of the most successful MMA gyms in Poland. In 2001 after a meeting with the representative of Bad Boy, he moved to Brazil where he started training at Macaco Gold Team and received his black belt (the first BJJ black belt in Poland) under Jorge "Macaco" Patino, who mentioned on more than one occasion that he considers Linke the best of his students. As a popular story goes, Linke one day arrived at Macaco's gym and simply asked when could he start and after Patino replied "right now", he simply threw his bags down, changed into a gi and stepped onto the mat.

In 2004 after leaving Berserkers Team, Linke started his own gym, Linke Gold Team, a branch of Macaco Gold Team, with full support of Jorge Patino, who would occasionally visit and teach classes himself. Since then Linke has promoted the most BJJ black belts in Poland (43) and over 200 purple ones.

One of Polish MMA pioneers, Mariusz Linke retired from active MMA competition on December 8th 2013 at the age of 44, easily winning his 16th MMA fight (and 10th won by submission) on a small local MMA event in his hometown of Szczecin, Imperium Arena. Despite that he's planning on continuing his grappling career and is targeting the 2015 ADCC World Championship.
