Greg Hardy Wiki

A former NFL Pro Bowl Defensive End, Greg Hardy switched careers from the Gridiron to the MMA cage following his release from the Dallas Cowboys due to new information coming out about his 2014 domestic violence case with his ex-girlfriend as well as his confrontational behavior between him and members of the Cowboys coaching staff. It should be noted that while the public opinion may have found Greg Hardy guilty a court of law was unable to. The prosecution had to drop charges when they failed to materialize a witness for their case. Greg Hardys girlfriend did not testify against him when asked about it she stated that the trauma she experienced was due to the press hounding her making her contemplate changing her name as she had already moved more than once to escape them. Greg Hardys record was expunged of all charges related to the incident. Hardy maintained playing football for a minor league team in the Spring League, while beginning to carve out a name for himself in the amateur MMA ranks as a Heavyweight, winning all 3 of his amateur fights by KO/TKO in the first round.  Hardy then accepted an offer from Dana White to turn pro and fight on the Dana White Tuesday Night Contender Series. Hardy debuted against fellow former NFL Defensive End  Austen Lane. His debut lasted only  57 seconds of the first round. Hardy KO Lane with a right hook left hook combination. This highlight reel knockout in his pro debut earned Hardy a developmental contract with the UFC. The next two fights were both ended with first round KOs and the brass at the UFC decided Hardy was seasoned enough to be brought up to the big show. No matter what the public consensus was about Hardy he definitely had a buzz around him and the UFC didn't stick there necks out in signing him for nothing. They did not want their risk to suffer a loss while fighting for one of the UFC feeder promotions before they had a chance to cash in.

So after just three professional fights On January 19, 2019  The Prince of War made his official debut in the UFC. He fought Allen Crowder and got the first loss of his MMA career. Hardy was disqualified at 2:28 of round 2 for an illegal knee to a downed opponent and an illegal punch which he threw after Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight. Miragliotta clearly disgusted with Hardys violation could be heard a few feet from Crowder telling a ringside official Im disqualifying him (Hardy) if he (Crowder) can not continue. Now rather this announcement had anything to do with Crowders decision to continue or not was really irrelevant but the violation didn't seem to hurt Hardys standing with the organization or with the fans at least not for long if at all. Hardy strung together back to back first round TKO's following his disqualification but the controversy curse was not finished with Mr Hardy just yet. The following fight was against a tough gritty opponent  Ben "Combat Wombat" Sosoli. After the first round a cornerman of Hardys handed the fighter and asthma inhaler a clear violation of the rules. Greg had said the inhaler had been approved but there was some confusion as the approval was for the use of the device in general as it contained no banned substance that would trigger a hot urine test however it was not sanctioned to be used during a fight. The whole event was almost rather comical as it was like a train wreck in motion as the commentators noticed the action and immediately knew the implications that were sure to follow. The commission later stripped Hardy of his unanimous win and declared the bout to be No Contest. Hardys next fight was as a late replacement for Junior Dos Santos in a matchup against the Alexander Volkov. Even though Hardy did loose a unanimous decision to the towering Volkov the fact that he had just over two weeks to prepare, the massive jump up in competition, and having a good showing all things considered, saw his stock actually rise from co main event fight. Hardy bounced back with a pair of victories the first by decision followed up by a second round knockout. He is now set to face Marcin Tybura on December 19, 2020 a win should see him land a top fifteen match up and allow him to crack into the ranking for the first time in his career.
